about

In Johannes Kepler's "Mysterium Cosmographicum" (The Cosmographic Mystery), published in 1596, he proposed a model of the solar system based on the five Platonic solids. Each of the five solids prescribes two spheres, one on the inside and one on the outside, each sphere describing the orbit of a planet. These solids and their corresponding planets are:

Octahedron - Mercury, Venus
Icosahedron - Venus, Earth
Dodecahedron - Earth, Mars
Tetrahedron - Mars, Jupiter
Cube - Jupiter, Saturn
